PlayStation 5 repair
2020–present · Mail-in from anywhere in the United States, or drop it off at an event.
The PS5's most common failure is physical. The HDMI port is soldered to the board and takes the strain every time a cable is pulled, tripped over, or left bent behind a cabinet. A damaged port means no picture at all, and it's a board-level repair rather than a part you can swap at home.
The second most common is heat. Dust builds in the heatsink and fan until the console runs loud, throttles, and eventually shuts itself down mid-game.
Common PlayStation 5 problems
No picture, console powers on
Damaged HDMI port — often with a bent or broken cable.
No picture even after a new port
The HDMI retimer or encoder chip also took damage.
Loud fan, hot exhaust, shutdowns mid-game
Dust-clogged heatsink and dried thermal paste.
Discs won't read or eject
Drive belt, laser, or gear fault in the disc drive.
Beeps once and dies, or no power at all
Power supply or board-level fault.

A PS5 that lost picture after the cable was yanked is the classic port job. A PS5 that lost picture with nothing touching it is more likely the retimer, and the diagnosis tells them apart before any price is committed.
Consoles run best with a clean every couple of years. A $89 deep clean is a lot cheaper than the repair that follows sustained overheating.
PlayStation 5 questions people ask
How much does PS5 HDMI port repair cost?
HDMI port replacement is $149. If the retimer or encoder chip was damaged along with the port — which happens when the cable was forced — the combined repair is $219. Diagnosis determines which before any work is authorized.
My PS5 has no picture but it turns on. What's wrong?
Almost always the HDMI port. Test a known-good cable and a different TV input first to rule out the easy causes. If the console is still blank, the port itself is damaged and needs to be replaced at board level.
Why is my PS5 so loud and hot?
Dust packed into the heatsink and fan, plus thermal paste that's dried out. A deep clean and repaste is $89 and brings noise and temperatures back to normal. Left alone, sustained heat leads to far more expensive board damage.
Will repairing my PS5 erase my games or saves?
Board-level repairs don't touch the storage, so your games and saves stay put. Sign-in details are yours and are never needed — if something about a repair could affect your data, you hear about it before work starts.
All work is carried out under the repair authorization & risk acknowledgment.
